Antonio (Tony) Vieria Da Luz, Jr., as it appeared in the San Antonio Express News, 29 December 1982.

Mr. Antonio (Tony) Vieria Da Luz, Jr. of 7246 Hickory Grove, entered rest on Sunday, December 26, 1982 at the age of 48 years. Tony was retired from the Air Force after more than twenty-five years of distinguished service, including tours of duty during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His outstanding service earned him the Meritorious Service Medal, several Air Medals, four Air Force Commendation medals, and eight Good Conduct Medals. Tony was highly respected in the military, in the community, and at home. He spent the final years of his retirement expressing his love of life through are and became and accomplished artist. A loving husband, father, grandfather, patriot, and artist…he will always be remembered. Tony is survived by his wife, Mrs Lorraine Da Luz; sons, Steven A., Gary A., and Robert A. Da Luz; daughters, Kathrine A. Maple, Jorgina L. and Sandra M. Da Luz; sister, Diotina Gomes; brother, David A. Da Luz; half-brother, Joseph Da Luz; and grandchildren, Jennifer L., Michael A., David A., Christina M., Richard B., and Bradly A. Da Luz. A rosary will be recited at the Brookehill Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 29th at 6:00 PM. Funeral procession will depart the Brookehill Chapel at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 30th for Mass to be held at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church at 12:30 PM, with Rev Michael Kenny as celebrant. Internment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements with Brookehill, 711 SE Military Dr., 923-7523.

Tony was serving at Headquarters, USAFSS/DOR (Stan/Eval) and later at Headquarters Basic Military Training School prior to his passing. I know very little personal information…except that he was one of those infamous names in Security Service’s flying program. I was fortunate to have served with him at both DOR and BMTS and honored to participate in his retirement ceremony. He was truly one of the “good guys.”
